FreedomFi Migrating Pollen Mobile Radios to Helium Firmware - Mapping Network

FreedomFi Migrating Pollen Mobile Radios to Helium Firmware

FreedomFi recently provided a step-by-step process to migrate Pollen Mobile radios to Helium Firmware. This migration requires a FreedomFi gateway, and for a limited time, Parley Labs is offering a 50% discount on one FreedomFi Gateway for Pollen migrators.

Check Radio Compatibility
Before starting the migration process, ensure that your Pollen Mobile radio is compatible with the Helium Network. The following radios are accepted for migration:
  • Baicells 430 (Elderflower)
  • BLiNQ Networks FW-300i (Moonflower)
  • Baicells 436Q (Buttercup)
  • BLiNQ Networks X-300i (Sunflower)
  • Baicells Nova 227 (Dandelion)

Please note that migration is a one-way action, meaning once a Pollen Radio is plugged into a FreedomFi gateway, it will automatically upgrade the firmware for use on the Helium Network and cannot be reverted back to a radio for use on the Pollen Network. You check regular updates to the compatibility here.

Migration Process

Step 1
Once you have a FreedomFi Gateway you may onboard it to the Helium network following the instructions here.

Step 2
Once your FreedomFi has been onboarded, plug in your compatible Pollen Radios into one of the eNB ethernet ports on the gateway. Leave all hardware powered on and connected.

Step 3
Access the local dashboard starting February 14, 2023 on the FreedomFi gateway (http://freedomfi-gateway.local) and read the consent notice. Check the box to provide consent and approve the upgrade by clicking the “Migrate Radio Now” button.

Step 4
Wait for the firmware update to complete. This can take up to 30 minutes and reboot many times in the process.

Step 5
If successful, you’ll now see the radio on the FreedomFi gateway’s local dashboard. (http://freedomfi-gateway.local)

Step 6
Once the update is complete you may submit your CPI request using the “Register Radio” button in the local FreedomFi dashboard as described.

As with any technology, it's important to stay up-to-date with the latest updates and improvements. FreedomFi regularly releases firmware updates for its Gateway and provides helpful information on its website to ensure a smooth migration process. It's also worth checking their website for any news or updates regarding the Helium Network and its associated devices. By staying informed and up-to-date, you can ensure that your migration process is seamless and that your device remains in optimal working condition on the Helium Network.
